Do One's Tweets Show One's True Authenticity?

This week I really enjoyed looking at composers this week using twitter to advertise their compositions. I followed all my favorites including bands like the 1975 and LANY, artists like Billie Eillish and Drake, authors and producers like John Green and Isaac Aptaker and more! Looking through each of the composer’s twitters gave a really good look into their individual brands and styles.

One of the composers I retweeted this week is the 1975, which is one of my favorite bands that I have been listening to for years. What I love most about them is their inconsistency in style and sound, making their music very diverse. The band is so open with all of the fans about the meaning behind their music, making each song personal and special. The band tweets sort of “behind the scenes” pictures and videos when posting about their new album in June, along with sneak peaks of content and updates about how the songwriting process is going! This is important to the followers of the 1975 because it keeps everyone excited for the new album. Though they are not currently on tour, the band constantly posts pictures from their last tour with captions longing for their new tour to start soon, making the followers feel like an important part of their journey. Their funny gifs and stunning photos in addition to their tour tweets keep the fans engaged, which is something the band cares so much about. I retweeted a post of a picture of the band editing a song for the new album because I feel as though the band is keeping us updated as we wait for new content.

Not only do they post updates about themselves, but they keep the twitter interactive constantly asking the fans questions while responding and making conversation with them on twitter. These tweets are personal and directed at the fans themselves, which distinguishes a real connection between the two. Through this composer’s tweets, it is clear to see their brand is so authentic and true to who they are as well as their connection with the fans, and this connectedness to their audience is something I plan to incorporate in my compositions for project 3.
