My Writer's Toolbox!

I think my writer’s toolbox is something that is constantly changing and evolving with each time I take on another project. Being a great writer is something I truly desire and I believe that it is something that comes naturally with practice. Every time I write is a little different from the last, so I’m afraid there’s really no ritual to my toolbox. I don’t usually reference other forms of text which is probably not the best idea but it’s true. I am a huge reader, and usually always have a book somewhere on my person. The books I read are almost always first person and are never anything fancy or sophisticated like something my mom would read. I think it’s because of this my writing is highly informal and not super sophisticated. Something I always do without fail is create an outline. I’m a highly visual learner, so outlining always gives me a clear and concise idea of how my writing is going to be organized. Microsoft Word is the bane of my existence, so I always prefer writing with pen and paper. Having a notebook and a nice gel pen (I have an unhealthy obsession with gel pens) next to me is a necessity to scribble down ideas no matter the differences in my writing routines. I rarely ever sit in silence so my study playlist is almost always playing in the background while working and writing. It helps me really get in the zone and block out any distractions around me. Sure, I find myself accidentally typing the song lyrics I’m listening to into my paper from time to time, but study music is still a must! Being a great writer is something that is super important to me because everyone in the world can afford to be a great writer. Plus, writing is fun and being able to express your ideas accurately is and in a way that they can be understood is going to make work, personal encounters, and just life in general so much easier!
